My Birthday I go to Space

08/05/2011

We woke up at 8 this morning and drove our little butts through Houston in order to get to the Johnson’s Space Center. I drove this time, because I was a little scared of Taylor’s driving last time. We almost died. Like seriously. It was bad! We finally got to the space center and got our little tickets. We first road the blue tram, which took us to the Houston Mission Control Center that controlled all the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Missions.

The mission control center was pretty cool and was exactly how it was in its hey day in the 60’s and 70’s. Afterwards we headed to the Star Theater and watched this movie that kinda made me sick about being an astronaut. The whole theater smelled like Mildew. Weird. It was really hot, but we wanted to go to the Astronaut training camp so we went onto Tram #2, The Red Tram. Kelsey and Taylor whined the whole time. Weiners. This place was cool. They had an entire replica of the International Space Station. They also had replicas of space shuttles and other things. I thought it was really cool. Afterwards we walked through the Starship Gallery where they had a bunch of replicas, moon rocks, and space shuttles that actually landed in the ocean. I really enjoyed the Johnson’s Space Center. It was history from a different era where men wore ties to work every day and they smoked cigarettes, pipes, and cigars in the office. People weren’t so concerned about their health, or anything else for that matter. Oh while we were there we also go to see Saturn V Space Rocket. It was HUGE! It never actually got off the ground. I can’t remember why, but it just didn’t. I liked this part of the tour as well.

After our JSC tour we headed to Kemah. Kemah is a little ocean town right on the Gulf of Mexico. This was my first time to the Mexican Gulf all though I have been to the Gulf while I was in Florida. So I guess you could say that I’ve been there before. We went and ate at Joe’s Crab Shack and they found out it was my birthday. What I didn’t know is that they make you do weird things on your birthday. I had to put too snow cone cups in my mouth, flap around like a pigeon with two six pack cardboard boxes. I looked and felt like an idiot for sure. But it was fun. After Joe’s Kels, Dad, Taylor, and I went to the Boardwalk and road The Bullet which was a rickety old wooden roller coaster. We had to coerce Taylor to get on because she wasn’t going to go, but she did.  We all felt sore afterward. Maybe not the best choice, but still it was fun. All and all it was a wonderful birthday! I couldn’t have asked for better!
